John Brown’s Body – ‘Kings And Queens In Dub’ [Review]
When all the strains and stresses of the modern world get on top of you, few entertainment options leave you really relaxed. I’m totally into the intense and hectic end of the musical spectrum – but even I’ll admit that sometimes it’s not the right thing at the right time. When I’ve just about had enough, dub and reggae do the job like few other genres can.
Kings and Queens in Dub contains plenty of calm, mellow moments (the plodding People in the Light; the serene Worldwide; the balmy Sweet Undertow) guaranteed to soothe a weary soul. But John Brown’s Body also up the tempo on unstoppable earworms like Give up the Ghost, the stoic Seneca, and the fragmented and driving Fracture. The overall picture is one of poise, balance, grace under duress, and strength in the face of overwhelming odds.
Virtuosically crafted, stunningly executed, and deep beyond belief, Kings and Queens in Dub is a must for dub-lovers worldwide.
