Who are Nothing But Thieves? They’re one of the fastest-rising rock acts in the UK right now – and if you’ve never heard of them, stick with TMMP here as we list off five reasons why over the next year, you’re not going to be able to escape them…
They’re sitting on a shit-ton of anthems.
Nothing But Thieves don’t do small songs. From the mournful heartstring tugs of fan favourite Graveyard Whistling to Last Orders‘ spacious groove and guttingly direct lyrics and more recent cuts like the ultra-funky Ban All The Music, the sci-fi fuzz of Itch, and the none-more sexy Trip Switch, there’s no arguing quality-wise here. The worst you could reasonably say is it’s not your thing; if you’re set on slating NBT’s songwriting, you’re nothing more than a master of rectal ventriloquism.
Conor Mason’s vocal is outstanding.
Listen to the songs. Seriously. Faultless.
Muse approve.
NBT recently supported Muse for the latter’s Rock In Roma 2015 show. Bands who suck and are on the way down don’t tend to get offered opportunities like that.
Their new single Honey Whiskey is immense.
Check out the YouTube player below and dig in. Honey Whiskey is a truly gorgeous track, boasting huge drums, emotive keys, that vocal…and it’s going to be the singalong song of choice for fans of Jack Daniels very soon. You want more? Well, that’s just selfish.
They’re about to explode – and an album is on the way.
Nothing But Thieves is set to drop on October 16th. If you’ve read this far, you know what to do. Mark the date in your preferred calendar app, and if you can’t afford it on release then it’ll likely be available to stream via Spotify and Apple Music. But seriously – if you can, buy it and support these guys. Streaming music doesn’t help bands as much as old-fashioned purchasing does – and being a great band with a hot profile doesn’t automatically mean you’re rolling in cash. Start saving up your pennies – or wait for Christmas and ask your gran for a CD.
